Eating by frameworks, not rules

For the woman who's done everything right and still doesn't feel right

There's a difference between a rule and a framework, and once you see it, you can't unsee it.

A rule tells you what to do. No carbs after 6pm. Always eat breakfast within an hour of waking. Never eat fruit alone. A rule doesn't care about your day, your body, or what's actually in your fridge. It just sits there, waiting for you to break it.

And you will break it. Not because you lack discipline. Because rules are rigid, and life isn't.

A framework is different. A framework gives you a handful of things to consider, then leaves the decision to you. It flexes. It works on a good day and a hard one. It doesn't punish you for missing it, because there's nothing to miss, just something to come back to.

This is the whole reason so much nutrition advice fails women in midlife specifically. Most of it was written as rules, and rules assume a stable, predictable body. Yours isn't that anymore, and treating it like it still is just sets you up to feel like you're constantly getting it wrong.

Why rules stop working here

Somewhere in your 40s, the rules you used to rely on quietly stop doing their job. The eating pattern that kept you steady at thirty starts leaving you tired, foggy, or waking at 3am at forty-five. That's not you doing it wrong.

Your body changed the terms without sending a memo.

Rules can't adapt to that. They weren't built to.

A framework can, because a framework was never about the specific food in the first place. It's about the relationship between a few variables, and those variables stay useful even as your body changes around them.

What a framework actually looks like

Take something as simple as STAC, Selection, Timing, Amount, Combination. It doesn't tell you what to eat. It gives you four things to notice about whatever you're already eating.

Same banana.

⮕ Eaten alone at 3pm on an empty stomach, it spikes your blood sugar and you're hungry again in an hour.

⮕ Eaten after lunch (timing), with some protein (combination) still working through your system, it barely registers the same way.

Which will ultimately change what you crave later.

Nothing about the banana changed. The framework just let you see why one version of that moment worked and the other didn't.

That's the entire value of a framework over a rule: it explains, instead of just instructing.

Once you understand the why, you stop needing someone else standing over your shoulder telling you what today's meal should look like. You start making that call yourself, because you finally have something to make it with.

The relief nobody mentions

Here's the part that surprises people. The biggest shift isn't physical. It's the exhale.

Most women come into this having spent years quietly wondering if they're getting it right.

Enough protein?

Too much fruit?

Should that have been a bigger meal?

A rule-based approach keeps that question alive forever, because there's always another rule you might be breaking somewhere.

A framework closes that loop. You stop guessing, and start knowing. Not because you've memorised more information, but because you finally have a way to check your own work, in real time, without needing anyone else's permission first.

That's the relief of knowing, instead of the pressure of guessing.

Where this leads

You don't need more willpower. You need fewer rules and a better framework, one built for the body you actually have now, not the one you had twenty years ago.

That's the whole premise behind How To Look After Your Body, a simple, no-diet framework for exactly this stage of life. Not another set of rules to fail at. Just a way to finally understand what your body's asking for, so you can stop guessing and start trusting yourself again.
